Announcement: Carbon-Neutral Milk Living Laboratory

Quebec City, July 10, 2023 – Novalait welcomes the announcement by the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, of the Carbon-Neutral Milk Living Laboratory. This is an ongoing collaborative research project on dairy farms aimed at testing and developing best practices in dairy production that reduce the environmental footprint.

QLPs are benefiting from a federal investment of up to $7 million for the Carbon-Neutral Milk Living Laboratory, part of an overall strategy to achieve carbon-neutral on-farm dairy production by 2050.

This innovative project, which brings together partners, scientific researchers and producers, will take place on 20 dairy farms in four regions of Quebec. The results of this research could eventually be shared with all Quebec and Canadian producers, contributing to the achievement of Producteurs de lait du Québec’s objectives in terms of sustainable development.

This is an important announcement from the Canadian government for Quebec dairy producers, as this living laboratory will make a major contribution to the development of knowledge and the improvement of practices in a perspective of sustainable development and carbon neutrality. We are determined to be at the forefront of best practices, which is why we have adopted an ambitious sustainable development plan and are working to develop foundational projects. This living laboratory will rely on the participation of several dairy farms, and we would like to thank the producers who are committed to the project and its objectives, as well as all the partners collaborating on it.

Daniel Gobeil

President, Producteurs de lait du Québec

Thanks to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for their confidence in this project!
